1-2 hours per week. Students will be given optional at-home practice activities related to the lesson topic.Class Experience
Want to use the Spanish you've already learned to ask and answer questions, practice Spanish grammar, and more? Come chat en Español with my private class for advanced beginners! Each week, we will practice a Spanish grammar rule (such as different verb tenses, noun-article agreement, when to use different question words, etc.) and will take notes. Students will have many opportunities throughout class to practice speaking out loud and create their own questions and answers in Spanish to build their conversational proficiency and confidence. PRIOR SPANISH KNOWLEDGE: This course is aimed for students who have knowledge of basic Spanish concepts such as numbers, colors, and Spanish subjects (yo, ella, nosotros, etc.). If your learner has little to no Spanish knowledge, please check out my color & chat classes for beginners or private tutoring! ----------------------------- Class Topics: (Note: Class topics may be rearranged and/or modified depending on the enrolled students' prior knowledge and comprehension). ------------------------------ Learners will also practice asking and answering questions in Spanish related to the above sentences to get conversational practice. The amount of content we cover will depend on the number of students, overall student comprehension, etc., but I always encourage a lot of verbal output from each student. This class is not a full immersion Spanish class and there will be some English used in class as needed. I aim to provide an ample amount of Spanish input and output while still helping students of various levels follow along. NOTE: Depending on the number of students, any background sounds, etc. I will either keep students unmuted or muted throughout the class.

Hello! My name is Ivana and I have 9 years of experience teaching in a variety of settings, including in the classroom, online, and private tutoring. I've taught over 4,500 online lessons and enjoy working with learners of all ages to help them feel comfortable and confident in learning virtually!
I enjoy creating creative lessons related to Spanish language and culture and drawing from my Colombian heritage. I also specialize in working with ESL students to strengthen their vocabulary, fluency, and confidence in speaking English.
For younger students, I use singing, art, and movement to provide engaging instruction on a variety of subjects, including Spanish and ESL. With older learners, my goals are to encourage them to think carefully, be curious, and find their unique voice and talents in a variety of subjects.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and my MSEd in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Starting in 2013, I taught Middle School Spanish for 2 years through Teach For America and then worked as a Home and Hospital teacher for all school subjects for several years. During the summer of 2016, I was a TA for 2 summer sessions of Cognitive Psychology with the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (CTY). Finally, I've taught online ESL lessons with 2 online ESL companies to students ranging from 3-16 years old for the past 4 years and formally mentor prospective online teachers on best practices for online ESL instruction.
