Spanish / Espanol Immersion Circle Time: Stories, Songs, Doodles, & Movement

We'll have fun singing, reading, dancing, and drawing in our twice-weekly Spanish circle time (100% in Spanish, accompanied by a real cottontail rabbit!) -- Geared towards ages 3-6

Class Experience

This class will be 100% Spanish immersion. I want to encourage students to think and speak in Spanish. This is because I believe an immersion environment is best for language learning.

*** This class is perfect for students that already have an understanding of Spanish or passively know Spanish -- they don't need to speak fluently, but they should be familiar with numbers, colors, common animals, etc. at an age-appropriate level. For example, if one parent speaks Spanish at home, but the child doesn't speak back in Spanish yet. Or, if your child knows basic Spanish and doesn't mind the immersion environment (i.e. not understanding EVERY word). This class is NOT going to be a good fit if your child doesn't know ANY Spanish yet. I do have an ongoing class for beginners! ***

In each class, we will:
- Practice basic conversation, ex. How are you? What's the weather like? What day is it? 
- Draw using shapes, lines, and/or letters; *optional:* write a couple of words to label our drawing
- Read a story
- Sing a children's song or nursery rhyme with movements or a game
- As time permits, play another memory, guessing, or other interactive game

Most of the songs and rhymes that I've chosen are traditional children's songs, so they're often not overly simplistic. This is not to discourage Spanish language learners -- on the contrary, they're an authentic part of Spanish-language learning for children.

Before class, encourage your child to repeat and answer questions as MUCH as they can or want. But, young learners also often need to build up their confidence before speaking a new language or speaking in online classes, so listening, watching, and absorbing is often the natural first step. I will not "call on" children and expect them to repeat or answer on command. 

Class environment: Working with young learners, I prefer to NOT mute students because they often have trouble unmuting themselves later. And, in language classes especially, I want to hear the students' pronunciation and questions. However, I will mute if there is lots of background noise. 

Remember that you can always review by watching our class recordings!

Learning Goals

- Students will become familiar with Spanish-language songs and rhymes
- Students will follow instructions to draw pictures
- Students will begin to identify literary elements, such as characters and setting
- Students will recognize and eventually say the day and date in Spanish

Supply List
If you have a paper or notebook and pencils, crayons, or markers ready, we will draw together in class! Your learner can use whatever he or she feels comfortable drawing with.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
