Description

Class Experience

Students will:

-use Spanish grammar and vocabulary to communicate specific information in class.
-improve their spoken Spanish and conversational skills
-improve their listening comprehension of spoken Spanish
-review common topics, grammar and vocabulary from Spanish 1 and/or 2
-develop reasoning, explanation, and problem solving skills in the target language
With over 9 years of experience teaching languages, and training other language teachers, there is one consistent request: Everyone wants more conversation practice. This course aims to provide that opportunity in a creative way. This is unique from my other courses in that it is not intended to be instructional. While students will have guidance and correction, and access to instructional/review materials before classes, the live class time will be used to practice and engage in Spanish.

As a long-time expat living in Mexico and Central America, I often work with students who live or travel abroad and wish to be able to communicate in Spanish for everyday activities. I use this same approach with all of my classes because if students can pick up basic communication and feel that sense of achievement, they are much more likely to continue with the language. Knowing how vital being bilingual is today - I want all of my students ot have a life-long love for Spanish, and languages in general.
Students will have access to the next activity´s materials 1 week prior to the class (or when the student enrolls for the first time, if it is less than a week), and immediately following each completed class. They are expected to work through the materials independently BEFORE the class, in order to maximize speaking/conversational practice. They should prepare to play both roles in each activity.
Materials are included in this course at no additional cost. The materials for each topic include an example dialogue with comprehension questions, a listening comprehension, explanation for the main grammar point with written practice, and vocabulary for the topic, as well as any authentic forms or templates that can help them during the class (for example, a job application or an informational brochure). They will be shared through a Google Slides presentation that the students can create a copy of, in order to print out, write their own notes, complete the listening activities, etc. and have everything stored in one convenient place.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Since this is a practice-based course, no formal assessment is included. Students will receive ongoing feedback and corrections throughout the course, based on their performance and progress.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
All of the materials are appropriate for all ages.
