Language instruction focuses more on meaningful and purposeful communication than on grammatical mastery. Students are encouraged first to understand and then to produce in the language. The target language is used by both teachers and students. 𝐌𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲: Participation is always encouraged. My preference is to have learners unmuted, however there may be instances when learners need to be muted due to the background noise or in order to hear other learners share. 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Learners will be asked to raise their hands to ask a question or before sharing. I may also call on each learner and may do so in order that I see them on my screen. 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠: * I will need to see each student on video at least at the beginning of the class for safety reasons in order to verify their identity. *I adhere to the Outschool policy of one learner onscreen per account. Siblings are welcome to sign up under different accounts.

Young linguists will receive language instruction which focuses more on meaningful and purposeful communication than on grammatical mastery. In my Spanish classes I use an approach to language learning that allows students to develop basic communicative skills in Spanish while reinforcing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) skills. Students are encouraged first to understand and then to produce in the language. The target language is used by both teachers and students.
