This is a highly interactive class where participation through speaking, singing, and body movement is encouraged. At the beginning of each class, we will practice some basic conversational skills, including greeting each other, introducing ourselves, asking how everyone is, and saying where we are from (state or country only). Then I will teach the necessary vocabulary words through repetition and visuals, then we will learn a fun song, chant, or story to support the learning objective(s). I will be using my puppets to model conversations, and if students have their own puppet or stuffed animal, they are encouraged to bring one to class with them. The puppet/animal can also help to calm any nervousness that students may be feeling when speaking a new language. I am excited to see your student in my class! We are going to have so much fun learning Spanish together!
Learning Goals
Students will become more familiar with spoken Spanish, learn basic vocabulary words, and learn how to communicate in Spanish using short phrases and sentences.

¡Hola! Me llamo Amanda, and I have been a Spanish teacher for the past 15 years. I taught public high school Spanish levels 1-4 and AP Spanish Language and Culture in the traditional classroom for the first 9 years of my teaching career, and for the past 6 years, I have taught and tutored online, focusing on students ages 3-14. All things Spanish have been my passion since I was 14 years old. I took my first Spanish class as a freshman in high school and fell in love. This love has led me to live and study in Spain and Costa Rica as well as take some of my students on adventures in both of these countries. My job as a Spanish teacher is to convey my love of the Spanish language and culture to your student and to facilitate an inviting and enjoyable learning experience for him/her. When we are comfortable and having fun, we learn more and we learn better! I believe that learning a second (or third or fourth) language is an important task in today's world, and with over 475 million people worldwide natively speaking it, Spanish is a great choice! The more people understand other languages, other people, and other cultures, the better our world will be. :) I can't wait to see your child in class!
