Class Experience

In this ongoing class, learners will have the opportunity to chat about different topics. The discussion will be guided by a native Spanish-speaking teacher. We will begin the meeting with greetings and introductions. During class, the teacher and learners will be reading a short story and having a discussion afterward. The teacher will be helping learners with pronunciation and correct grammar as needed. Learners will have ample opportunities to speak and practice their Spanish conversational skills, as well as have the opportunity to interact with other learners by asking and answering questions. Different games will be presented in each class to keep learners interested. The goal is to have fun with others while learning in a safe classroom environment. If you have questions about your particular student's skill level, I am here to help! Just send me a message!

This class will not be limited to the following topics alone. During each class, we will cover basic skills, such as greetings, feelings/moods, correct grammar/pronunciation, and so on.

Week 8/22:Games! We will read and discuss different types of games around the world without the use of phones, tablets, computers, etc. We will also be reading a story with a lot of new vocabulary, paying close attention to proper verb conjugation.

Week 8/29: Gardening! We will be chatting and reading a story about things involved in a garden with some examples of different vegetables and fruits.

Week 9/5: At the store! We will discuss our favorite store(s). We will use descriptive language to talk about our favorite store(s) and read a shopping experience story.

Week 9/12: My favorite Place! The learners will have the opportunity to share and describe their best place. We will be talking about location, distance, and activities related to the topic. Games of words will be played to learn new vocabulary.

Week 8/19: What can I do? In this class, we will be talking about the best way to spend our time. This will be a great time for learners to share their talents with others.

Week 9/26: How can I do it? We will discuss better ways to do things such as "aprendiendo, practicando ó preguntando". We will practice some phrases to increase vocabulary.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Neil and I have a passion for learning and sharing what I know. I love teaching children in a fun and practical way. Spanish is my native language and I have enjoyed teaching others how to speak it. I myself learned English as an adult and can relate to the struggles that students experience when learning a new language. My goal is for students to learn in a fun and safe environment, free from judgment.

I am originally from Venezuela and have lived in the US for more than 20 years. My wife and I homeschool our three children, ages 19 (just finished college), 14, and 13. We have been homeschooling for the past 17 years. I've always been very active in our homeschool community co-ops, teaching cooking classes, science labs, geography and history (with a focus on Venezuela and other Latin American countries), and coaching soccer/bowling teams.

I am a fun-loving teacher who excels at building rapport with students. I am a very patient educator who believes everyone is capable of learning a second or third language. With encouragement and positive reinforcement, I believe any student can succeed!

My family and I love music, though I am not very good at playing instruments or singing. However, my family always gets a kick out of me pretending to sing opera. Figarooooo! I love making people laugh and I look forward to making learning fun for your students. See you in the classroom!
