Class Experience

In this camp, students will learn to communicate using high frequency verbs in Spanish. Students will learn these verbs through interactive stories and effective questioning techniques that build communication skills without stress. My teaching style is interactive and fun. Students will be speaking in Spanish from day 1! This class is suitable for students who have had little to no Spanish in the past. A follow-up camp to build on this knowledge will be available for students to continue their Spanish journey.

Days 1-3 - We will develop the story focusing on the high frequency verbs "hay," "es," está," "tiene," "quiere," "va," and "dice." We will also add in personalized communication questions using these verbs. Depending on the class size, it could take all 3 days to get through the story. This is because the story is infused with multiple comprehension checks, opportunities for students to speak, as well as personalized questions for each student to talk about themselves in Spanish.
Days 3-4 - We will expand on variations of the same story by reading in Spanish and playing games, moving these high frequency words into long-term memory. We will also continue the Q&A with the personalized communication questions.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to communicate using 7 high frequency verbs in Spanish (there is - hay, is -es , is- está, has - tiene, wants - quiere, goes - va, and says - dice). Students will be able to answer basic questions about themselves and others in full sentences.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am passionate about teaching Spanish because I know how exciting it is to be able to communicate with more people from different backgrounds. I first knew I wanted to learn Spanish when I saw my Aunt speaking Spanish to others on a family vacation. In my mind, I thought "How cool! I want to be able to do that!" Knowing a second language has opened up so many more opportunities for my life, and I want others to be able to experience that as well.
I have been teaching for the past 10 years. 2 of those years were living in Spain teaching English, and the rest has been as a certified Spanish teacher in the United States. In addition to having my Bachelor's degree in Spanish and Theatre, I also have my Masters in Education.
My teaching style is backed by brain research on how to more naturally learn a second language. We all have learned our first language, so my methods use the tools our brains already possess to learn a language. These methods include repetition, comprehensibility, and stories. Our brains are wired to remember stories! I also focus on the high frequency words of the language so that students can more quickly communicate in the language.

Parent reviews from my classroom:
"[Student] has taken Spanish for years, but this year she has gone around the house speaking Spanish like it is her native language! Thank you!"
"Thank you for all you did this year making the the class so fun for [student]. He has the best Spanish foundation in our household already!"
