Class Experience

During this class, which will meet over a period of 3 weeks, students will be reading beforehand the assigned chapters and discussing among each other the book "Matilda" by Roald Dahl, which you can find on amazon.com. The goal for this class, is for learners to develop reading comprehension skills in Spanish, while reading a very entertaining book that also helps them expand vocabulary and improve conversational skills. This is a small class; therefore, they will be actively participating during the sessions.

Schedule:
Week 1: Read the chapters "La lectora de libros" - "La señorita Honey" before class. The first week, we will learn more about the author, discuss the first chapters and the character traits of the main characters. We will also do writing exercises to describe the characters.
Week 2: Students are required to read before class from chapters "La Trunchbull" - "El primer milagro". Once we meet, we will discuss the vocabulary, each chapter and the different ideas everyone has about the book so far. We will also talk and write about the themes in the book and how to identify them. During the last 15 minutes, the students will play a reading comprehension game on nearpod.com.
Week 3: Students are required to read the remaining chapters before class. We will go over vocabulary questions, discuss the chapters, and do a writing exercise based on the character traits of Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull, as well as Matilda's family and friends; we will finish the class with a reading comprehension game on nearpod.com.

I will post a weekly vocabulary guide before each session, along with questions based on the assigned chapters to think about, that we can discuss during the class.
Everyone is welcome to post any comments between our sessions on the classroom page, regarding their thoughts about the book; they are also welcome to ask any reading comprehension or vocabulary questions. I will also be posting regularly writing activities and questions for discussion.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their Spanish vocabulary and grammar, as they will be reading extensively. They will also work on conversational and writing skills, and develop critical thinking by discussing the book and giving their own opinions about it.
