-This class is designed to encourage young readers to commit and follow through on finishing a book while delving into insightful conversations about the content with peers. Having accountability and others to come along side you in your journey is motivating. -Chapters will be read at home according to the weekly schedule: Week 1 Intro and discussion for pages 1-24 Week 2 discussion for pages 25-106 Week 3 discussion for pages 107-178 Week 4 discussion for pages 179-240 Week 5...
-Students will commit to and finish a whole book: El Soñador. -Students will encourage each other through classroom interaction and by working as a team toward the end goal of finishing the book as a class. -Students will understand the characters, plot, setting and overall theme of the book through class discussions. -Students will be inspired to continue reading on their own.
Teacher Zia is an avid reader. She is native Spanish speaker who has taught with the Department of Education in Puerto Rico and also has two college degrees from the University of Puerto Rico.
Each week, students should read (3) chapters from the book in order to be prepared to actively participate in classroom discussion. Vocabulary, question and summary activities will be assigned to different students weekly.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Student should purchase their own copy of the book El Soñador by Pam Muñoz Ryan and Peter Sís. The book can be digital, new or used.
