Hello everyone! During this book club, which will meet over a period of 4 weeks, students will be reading beforehand and discussing among each other the first book of the series City Spies. The goal for this class, is for students to expand vocabulary and to increase conversation and reading comprehension skills. This is a small class therefore, students will be actively participating during each session. They will also take part in fun activities based on the story, such as writing exercises, matching pairs and multiple selection tasks. Schedule: Week 1: Read the first 9 chapters before the book club is scheduled to start (Un hombre llamado Madre - Granja). During the first session, we will learn more about the author and his writing style; we will also review vocabulary, talk about the characters and discuss the chapters. Week 2: Read beforehand chapters 10 - 18 (La Cena - Le Fantôme). We will discuss vocabulary and each chapter. During the last 15 minutes, the students will play a reading comprehension game on nearpod.com Week 3: Read beforehand chapter 19 -27 (El Eurostar - Palais de Justice). We will go over vocabulary questions, discuss the chapters and do a writing exercise based on the main themes of the story. Students will also engage in a reading comprehension game on nearpod.com during the last part of the session. Week 4: Students are required to have finished the book. We will talk about the final chapters and discuss the situations that were relevant to the story and character development. We will finished the class by having a scape room activity using Nearpod. They will complete a fill in the blanks and a matching pairs task and participate in a race, by answering reading comprehension questions. Students are welcome to post any questions they might have on the classroom board between sessions.
Learning Goals
Students will expand their Spanish vocabulary, as they will be reading extensively. They will also improve conversational and writing skills, and develop critical thinking by discussing the book, writing about it and giving their own opinions.

Parental Guidance
We will be using the website nearpod.com, which is an approved their-party tool. Students will not required to have their own account, or enter any personal information. A code will be given to access the activities.

I am a certified educator in teaching Spanish as a foreign language and a native speaker from Colombia. I have been working with children since 2003 and joined Outschool in April 2020; it has been a very rewarding and fulfilling adventure!
I have experience in teaching and tutoring all levels in Spanish, English and math. I have also worked as a program coordinator in the nonprofit sector, where I designed and developed several courses and classes for after school programs and summer camps for ages 6 - 18 years.
My goal as an educator, is to provide a rewarding and immersive learning journey, and to foster an inclusive educational environment where students feel motivated and supported along the way.
