1-2 hours per week. Students are required to read the assigned chapters before each session.Class Experience
During this class, which will meet over a period of 4 weeks, students will be reading beforehand and discussing among each other the book "Charlie y la fábrica de chocolate" by Roald Dahl, which you can find on amazon.com. The goal for this class, is for students to develop reading comprehension skills in Spanish, while reading a very entertaining book that also helps them expand vocabulary and improve conversational skills. This is a small class; therefore, students will be actively speaking during each session. Schedule: Week 1: Read the first six chapters ( "Aquí viene Charlie" - "Los dos primeros afortunados") before class. The first week, we will learn more about the author, discuss the first chapters and the character traits of the main characters. We will also do writing exercises to describe the characters. Week 2: Students are required to read before class the next 8 chapters ("El cumpleaños de Charlie" - "El señor Willy Wonka"). Once we meet, we will discuss vocabulary, each chapter and the different themes in the story. During the last 15 minutes, the students will play a reading comprehension game on nearpod.com Week 3: Students are required to read before class from chapter "El recinto de chocolate" to chapter "Por el corredor". We will discuss the assigned chapters and students will share what their thoughts are about the book so far. We will also focus on describing the factory and write the ideas we have about it. During the last part of the class, the students will participate on a reading comprehension game. Week 4: Students are required to finish the book before class. We will finish the session by having a scape room activity, in which students have to solve puzzles, riddles and other activities based on the book. Everyone is welcome to post any comments regarding their thoughts about the book, reading comprehension or vocabulary questions; this can be done on the classroom board between classes. I will also be posting regularly writing activities and questions for discussion.
Learning Goals
Students will learn Spanish vocabulary and grammar, as they will be reading extensively. They will also improve the conversational and writing skills, and develop critical thinking by discussing the book and giving their own opinions about it.
