Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 9
Beginner Level
I believe that language learning should be exciting and fun! Confidence in the process always makes for a better experience and helps a student achieve fluency and to master grammar concepts faster! My desire in this course is to give your student the confidence they need as they head in to Spanish 1!

This course is for the brand new Spanish student preparing to enter Spanish 1 in the fall! Over these 6 weeks students will be introduced to some of the important grammatical concepts learned in Spanish 1.

This class will meet weekly for a brief grammar lesson and a mixture of written and oral practice. We will use a variety of mediums including written work, virtual activities in Nearpod, and oral practice. Between sessions students will work on their own with review activities in Nearpod and other written assignments to review and keep the material fresh. Other interactive opportunities will pop up through the week in the classroom helping to bridge the gap between each class. Our meeting time is our weekly session. Between classes students may reach out at any time with questions or for assistance with the practice exercises.

Over the 6 week time period students will be introduced to the following concepts:

Week 1 Being understood and conversation starters.
Alphabet and pronunciation
Week 2 Self-introductions and descriptions
We will learn about the first to-be verb, "ser" and introduce ourselves and describe ourselves and others.
Week 3 Feelings and mood
We will learn about the second to-be verb "estar" and discuss how we feel and the location of items.
Week 4 What is there?
We will use the verb "haber" and singular and plural nouns.
Week 5 What do you like to eat?
We will learn food vocabulary and the verb "gustar" to discuss our likes and dislikes.
Week 6 What do you do?
We will be introduced to the world of verb conjugation as we talk about what people do!

This course is not a replacement to Spanish 1. It is meant to give an introduction to and also build confidence with some of the key concepts students will encounter in their upcoming Spanish 1 course. My goal is to give them an introduction to some grammar and vocabulary so that they are more confident to use it going forward!
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to important grammar and vocabulary to give them a confident start to Spanish 1.

I am an experienced language teacher with over 15 years of experience teaching Spanish as well as 5 years experience teaching English as a second language in the virtual classroom. I have been teaching my own personal Spanish curriculum on Outschool. Prior to virtual teaching I taught high school and middle school Spanish in the classroom. I studied the Spanish language in the U.S.A at Temple University and in Spain at Universidad Complutense in Madrid. I have spent multiple summers in Spanish-speaking countries teaching English and continuing to study Spanish. I love the language and I always enjoy helping students love it too!
