Class Experience

I believe that language learning should be exciting and fun! Confidence in the process always makes for a better experience and helps a student achieve fluency and to master grammar concepts faster! The goal of this course is to give your student a head start before they enter a more formal Beginner level Spanish 1 course. The self-paced style of this course allow your student the flexibility to complete it according to their schedule.

This course is for the brand new Spanish student preparing to enter Spanish 1 in the fall! Over these 6 weeks students will be introduced to some of the primary and most important concepts learned in Spanish 1. Through video lessons and enrichment activities students will learn, practice and gain confidence in these concepts.

The course is divided into 6 cycles. These cycles include 2 vocabulary list, 2 video lessons and written practice. Each cycle focuses on one of the 6 main concepts of Spanish 1.

The video lessons are designed to make the student feel comfortable and to feel as if they are learning one on one with me. They consist of grammar instruction, interactive written practice as well as lots of verbal practice. We use Nearpod during the videos for some interactive practice.

As an added bonus, though the course is self-paced and students learn according to their schedule, they are not on their own! I will be checking on the students and their work in Nearpod, responding to them in our assignments tab as they complete the review activities and sending message with feedback. I am also always available through private message if a student has any questions.

Video lessons will include:
1. Grammar instruction + vocabulary
2. Interactive practice in Nearpod.
3. Verbal practice to get comfortable using the language right away

Over the 6 week time period students will be introduced to the following concepts:

Week 1 Being Understood! Pronunciation + sounds of key letters in the Spanish alphabet
Week 2 Our homes -- definite articles, plurality and gender of nouns - The verb "tener" and the verb "haber".
Week 3 Making Descriptions: Ser + adjectives / Subject Pronouns
Week 4 How do you feel and Where is it? : Estar + emotions / Estar + prepositions
Week 5 What do you do? AR verbs
Week 6 Like it or not! The verb “gustar” + food

This course is not a replacement to Spanish 1. It is meant to give an introduction to and also build confidence with some of the key concepts students will encounter in their upcoming Spanish 1 course. My goal is to give them an introduction to some grammar and vocabulary so that they are more confident to use it going forward!

Learning Goals

Students will be introduced to important grammar and vocabulary to give them a confident start to Spanish 1.
