Class Experience

I believe that language learning should be exciting and fun! Confidence in the process always makes for a better experience and helps a student achieve fluency and to master grammar concepts faster! The goal of this course is to give your student a head start before they enter a Beginner level Spanish 1 course. This course is made flexible to allow your student to complete it on their time during their summer schedule!

This course is for the brand new Spanish student preparing to enter Spanish 1 in the fall! Over these 6 weeks students will be introduced to some of the important grammatical concepts learned in Spanish 1 and will get practice using them form language!

In this flexible schedule course students will view 2 interactive videos each of the 6 weeks. These videos are meant to feel like the student is in a live course learning 1 on 1 with me. They consist of grammar instruction, interactive written practice as well as verbal practice. Much of the practice will take place in Nearpod which the student will complete during the video. Additionally I will include optional written or listening work the students can do for some extra exposure and practice. Students will receive a short vocabulary list at the start of each week and will use that vocabulary during our video lessons and in their optional written work.

While this course is flexible, it is not independent. The classroom chat will be available for interaction and discussion. I will use this tool to give the students a chance to practice what they are learning by answering questions and interacting through chat. Students may also always feel free to message me with any questions or concerns as they work through the material.

Video lessons will include:
1. Grammar instruction + vocabulary
2. Interactive practice in Nearpod.
3. Verbal practice to get comfortable using the language right away

Over the 6 week time period students will be introduced to the following concepts:

Week 1 Being Understood! Pronunciation + sounds of key letters in the Spanish alphabet
Week 2 Our homes -- definite articles, plurality and gender of nouns - Tengo (I have)
Week 3 What do we do? Subject pronouns + regular verb (AR verbs only)
Week 4 Making descriptions! Ser + adjectives
Week 5 How do you feel? Estar + adjectives
Week 6 Do you like it or not? The verb “gustar”

This course is not a replacement to Spanish 1. It is meant to give an introduction to and also build confidence with some of the key concepts students will encounter in their upcoming Spanish 1 course. My goal is to give them an introduction to some grammar and vocabulary so that they are more confident to use it going forward!

Please note that this course requires a minimum of 3 students for a section to run. If it does not reach that the scheduled course will be cancelled prior to the start date.
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to important grammar and vocabulary to give them a confident start to Spanish 1.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an experienced language teacher with over 15 years of experience teaching Spanish as well as 5 years experience teaching English as a second language in the virtual classroom. I have been teaching my own personal Spanish curriculum for levels 1 and 2 on Outschool. Prior to virtual teaching I taught high school and middle school Spanish in the classroom. I studied the Spanish language in the U.S.A at Temple University and in Spain at Universidad Complutense in Madrid. After living in Spain I have spent multiple summers in Spanish-speaking countries teaching English and continuing to study Spanish. I love the language and I always enjoy helping students love it too!
