Class Experience

I am a big believer in using books to help students learn and practice character building. As we read Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, we will be practicing comprehension skills, communication skills, and discuss the importance of having courage to be who you are. As we discuss how the main character showed courage and kindness, we will begin an activity called, "Different on the Outside-Same on the Inside" where students will trace an outline of themselves on a piece of paper. Around the outside of their outline, students will write descriptions of what makes them unique “on the outside” based on characteristics that we can see. On the inside of their outline students will write personal characteristics that cannot be seen immediately. Students will then be able to share with the class, what makes them unique and encourage one another to have courage!

Learning Goals

Students will learn to be proud of their unique self and to celebrate differences that helps make each and everyone of us unique.
