Introduction to Black Holes & Their Types
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Black Holes: Important Terminology, Defining Black Holes & Their Parts
During this first lesson, we will cover key terminology which will help us understand how black holes work. We will look at Matter, Mass, and Gravity. Afterwards, we will learn the definition of a black hole, discuss how it works, and identify the individual parts of a black hole.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Types of Black Holes & More Important Terminology
During this second lesson, we will cover the important terms to understand to help us describe the types of black holes. Terms covered are Solar Mass & Quasar. Then we will discuss the 4 basic Types of Black Holes from the smallest to the largest. We will dive into how scientists believe the different types are formed, and how massive they can be as well.
Unit 2Finding Black Holes & Why they are Important

Finding Black Holes & Why they are Important
 Week 3
Lesson 3
How Humans find Black Holes, & the Closest & Farthest Black Holes from Earth
During this lesson, we will discuss how we "see" black holes in space. We will look at specific technology utilized, and how we can identify & find them. We will also take a look into how many black holes exist in the the vastness of space. You will be shocked when you find out how many scientists believe are out there!
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Why are Black Holes Important & Review Game
In this lesson, we uncover the amazing black holes that are the closest and the farthest away from our beautiful, blue planet, Earth. We will also learn some new terms such as, Astronomical Unit & Light-Year. During this lesson, we will discuss the importance of black holes, and how they help our galaxy and universe to thrive, as well as what they do to spread the elements throughout space. Then we will have some fun by playing an interactive review game all about Black Holes.

 Week 5
Lesson 5
Introducing Exoplanets & How Humans Find them
Today's lesson is an introduction into Exoplanets and the NASA Exoplanet catalog. We will look at what an exoplanet is, how many exoplanets have been discovered, and will learn some new vocabulary along the way (Planetary System, Host Star, etc.), and how we name the Exoplanets. Then we will discuss the 5 basic ways humans are able to find & study these planets so far from our home world.
Unit 4Exoplanet Types & The Closest and Farthest from Earth

Exoplanet Types & The Closest and Farthest from Earth
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Types of Exoplanets & the Closest to Earth
During this lesson, we will learn important terminology that will help us as we dive more into Exoplanets. Mainly, we will learn about Light-Years, Habitable Zones, Astronomical Units, and more. Then we will take a ride through space to discover the the Alpha Centauri star system, and closest system to Earth, Proxima Centauri. We will discuss the closest exoplanet in detail as well. Get ready to be amazed!
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Types of Exoplanets & the Farthest from Earth
In this lesson, we will cover additional types of Exoplanets, such as Gas Giants, Super Jupiters, Mini-Neptunes, Terrestrial, Lava Worlds, Hot Exoplanets, and so much more. Then we will zoom far away from our planet towards the center of our galaxy to discover the Exoplanet that is farthest from Earth, how far away it orbits its star, what type of planet it is, as well as how long it would take us to make it there at our current technology.
Unit 5The Importance of Exoplanets

The Importance of Exoplanets
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Why are Exoplanets Important & Review Game
During this, our last lesson, we will discuss why Exoplanets are so important to humans. What we can learn from them, and how they might help us in the future. Then we will play a fun, interactive review game together!
Students will be able to describe what a black hole is; identify the types of black holes, and tell how they are formed, where they are found, and explain why they are important. Students will also be able to describe what Exoplanets are; identify ways we can find them; as well as discover the closest & farthest Exoplanets from Earth & their unique planetary systems.
I have always had a love of space, from the moment my grandpa, an amateur astronomer, let me look through the 10-foot telescope he built all by himself, to watching shuttles & satellites lift into the sky, and watching some fall back to the earth. I have spotted some of the largest dust storms to hit Mars, and have enjoyed looking at the various craters on our Moon and seeing the rings around Saturn, all from my own backyard in Missouri & while using other telescopes my grandpa and I built together! I have never ceased my exploration and search, looking to the skies to watch for eclipses, comets, and so much more! My love of all things Space has only increased with time, and I feel it is the next great wave of the future! As a teacher with a Master’s Degree in Teaching & over 30 years of experience working with children of various ages, and more than 5 years teaching students about Space, as well as other Science-related subject-matter, I love sharing my knowledge with the next generation. My hope is to instill the awe-inspiring beauty the Unknown Universe holds, as well as encourage students to dream and believe! I hope to see you in class as we Blast-Off to Space!
