Class Experience

Day 1: Stars and Why they Twinkle
-We're going to discuss what a star is, how they differ by color and size, and we'll do a science experiment to explain why they twinkle.

Day 2: Black and White Holes
-We will learn about the life cycle of a star and illustrate it using socks. Next, we'll discuss black and white holes. We'll discuss how some stars turn into black holes and why that happens.

Day 3: Constellations and Mythology
-We will discuss that constellations are imaginary patterns in the sky that have been used by ancient civilizations to tell myths and stories. Students will hear the Greek myths about Ursa Major and Pegasus. After that each student will invent their very own constellations to share with the class!

Hi! I’m Alayna, a University of Washington alum, certificated teacher, and local author. Before having my two adorable munchkins, I taught in the public-school system for almost 6 years, and now enjoy guiding my children on their learning adventures. Since kids learn in many different ways, I love to utilize a variety of strategies such as think-pair-share, class discussions, games, and crafts. But above all I believe strongly that learning should be fun for as George Dorsey said, “Play is the beginning of knowledge.”
