In this class, each week we will learn new or review the previous letter sounds with movement, then practice with how to blend them together to make words. We will discuss words with the same beginning sounds, blending three sounds together, and writing short words. I teach in a conversation based, flexible style. I like the kids to participate and take turns and be fully involved in the lesson. It is best if they can take classes in a quiet environment so they can remain unmuted for full...
students will learn vowel & consonant sounds, blend sounds together and write short words
I have 6 years of classroom experience as a special education teacher, 20 years of experience as a tutor, and five years of experience as a homeschool mom. I am pulling all my best strategies together to teach this course in a hands-on, multisensory way that builds success & confidence to enjoy learning to read!
students should practice their letter sounds & words 10 minutes per day between sessions (at least twice per week) optional homework will be assigned from "Explode the Code Book A" & "Bob Books Alphabet set". The Alphabet set will be used all year and Explode the Code Books A-C will be used for the entire year if you'd like to purchase the set.
To provide a multi-sensory learning experience, students should have a hands-on letter manipulative. This can be magnetic letters, sandpaper letter cards, foam letters, letter tiles, flashcards etc. These can be handmade if you don't have anything else available. Please message me if you need a link to a purchased or DIY option. If you'd like to complete the optional homework you will need Explode the Code book A & Bob Books alphabet set. Also, a composition notebook or 3 ring binder can be used if you'd like to keep a book of what the students learn through the year (optional).
Informal assessment can be given based on performance in group classes. If you wish to have a formal assessment or progress monitoring completed please book a 1:1 assessment.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
