Class Experience

Welcome to "Soothing, Simple and Relaxing Drawing and Coloring for Children of All Abilities" where we have a gentle, calming, and easy-going approach to simple forms of art.

In this class, children of all abilities are welcome specially children on the autistic spectrum or other special needs.

I approach each class with the understanding that each child is an individual and works in different ways and am aware that each child is different. One child might choose to add their own details while another may stray from the step-by-step instructions to try something different or new. This is always a possibility in this session and I welcome their experimentation as they guide me in a direction that suits their needs. I am ready to adapt to each child's individuality and help them as they explore.

During this session, I will start with a simple shape "Circle". We can draw a basic circle shape, for few children it will be easier others it might be difficult so they can choose to trace it. We will learn to draw the shapes big and small adapting to the project we have decided on. Once we draw the shape I will guide them on each step and drawing with them so they know what are we adding and using markings as to where we will be adding others stuff. The following structure can assist all learners in developing further deep thinking skills as they learn to listen to instructions while creating forms from basic shapes. Every week, I will change the activities as per children's needs and their abilities. After knowing the children better, i will be well aware of planning activities according to their needs and interest.

Each week, during class we will focus on:
- Pencil Grip
- Hand/Eye Coordination
- Focus/Concentration
- Coloring Inside Shapes
- Drawing Basic Shapes
- How to Draw Shapes in Varying Sizes
- Basics of Colors
- How to Follow Instructions
- Confidence

I have been working with children of all abilities and special needs for about six years and love working with them. The understanding and acceptance of knowing that one can plan structure for a child yet that plan may vere in another direction is one I embrace as I know changing directions of a project is something the learner may find more comforting.

This course is basic and simple to give learners a safe space to create as we work together to follow along with the plan in addition to their out-of-the-box thinking.

The class will be taught in a step-by-step format with the room to adapt my instructions according to the learner's needs.

Due to my understanding of special needs, if your learner falls out of the listed age range please don't hesitate to contact me so we can discuss if they would be a good fit for this class coloring and drawing session.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a high-level special needs teaching assistant for six years I was given the opportunity and task to be directly and actively involved in the planning process for children of all abilities and special needs. My position as an activities coordinator for children in the special needs population included the careful planning of activities for the children which were then taught to the key instructors for the organization I worked for to carry out further with our students.

Currently, I am continuing to work closely with children with global delays and understand that every child is different and when a child is open to more one-on-one assistance, I will continue to help them any way I can.
