Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Students will learn proven reading comprehension strategies in this club as we read stories on a 2nd-5th grade level about Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and their adventures. we will read IDW's Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 1 (issues #1- #12). Students do not need copies of the books. They may read along as I display the pages on my screen using my Wacom digital tablet. Learners will love learning through stories about funny characters, answering questions about characters, settings, problems, and solutions, and making inferences in a new and engaging way. I am a certified elementary school teacher with twelve years of experience teaching reading grades 1-5.

I love comics and Sonic The Hedgehog stories and creating lessons around characters students love, and I know the students will learn better when engaged. This club meets once a week. I have experience teaching students with degree of disabilities and am very good at modifying lessons and activities as need be.

Every MONDAY, we begin a new lesson for the week.

The class repeats at different times throughout the week, but the material continues until Sunday.

The Sonic, The Hedgehog Reading Comprehension Club, is a one-time class, so students sign up weekly and have flexibility on am/pm and the day of the week. Most students attend once a week, but some choose to repeat classes.

We will answer questions before, during, and after each story, and I will demonstrate how to solve each reading problem step by step using my Wacom digital tablet and SmartBoard program. These professional tools allow me to highlight, underline, and annotate along with the students, giving a perfect example of problem-solving. I will model how to work through each comprehension question using the I do, We do, You do strategy.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Mr. Peden, and I make learning fun! In my experience, students learn best when they are engaged and invested in their education. Learning doesn't have to be bland. I design lessons around exciting stories and funny illustrations—engaging learners by teaching in a fun interactive way alongside characters and stories they enjoy.

Before teaching with Outschool, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Elementary Education. I taught as a classroom teacher for 9 years. During that time, I taught students with special needs and typical peers, ranging from K-5. I created and implemented over 140 Individual Education Plans during my tenure. Then, I obtained my Art and Physical Education K-12 certification and teaching students in grades 6-8 for a school year.

For the last 3 years, I have been teaching virtually for students of all ages and abilities, and I love it! I add to my lessons my artistic skills to develop individualized curriculums that excite and motivate students when I am not spending quality time with my family and friends. I enjoy drawing, writing, and practicing martial arts. I have self-published my own educational children's books.

I am ecstatic to create fun lessons for your students and plan to teach a variety of academic courses for all ages!
