Songwriting is not just for adults and professionals, you can start writing your own music right now! Songwriting can be overwhelming when you don't know where to start but even beginner musicians can follow simple steps to creating their own songs. Using fun, musical exercises and activities we will write AND musically notate a song as a group. By the end of this class you will have a song that you can sing, play, and share with family and friends, including a .pdf download of the sheet...
Students will learn the basics of songwriting, including melody, rhythm, and lyrics. They will also be introduced to basic music theory and notation in the songwriting process.
No homework, yay!
A free account to noteflight.com can be helpful if students want to continue working on their own, but it is not required for the class.
We will assess our composition together throughout the songwriting process. Individual students will be encouraged to actively participate but not required.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Noteflight.com is an online musical notation tool created both for professionals to create sheet music and for students to learn and experiment with musical notation, instruments, and more. I will be using this website to notate and display what students come up with, so that we can listen to our composition on the fly. Students are NOT required to create their own accounts, but may do so if they want to notate along with me or experiment on their own. Students should ask for parental permission before creating an account and should follow safe online practices.
