Class Experience
Have you ever wondered what the singer is singing about? In this class, we will learn the structure of a song, and the types of descriptive language that is used to help the listener feel emotions. Each week, there will be a new song to listen to, judge for yourself, and learn about. This class is taught in English.
Students will improve their understanding of parts of speech, descriptive language, metaphors, and other techniques using song lyrics. They will learn to socialize and share their opinions with others in a safe and kind environment.
I have been a librarian for over a decade. In this time, I have worked with students of all ages (college to elementary) on their reading, organization, and grammar skills. I have also been teaching English online for the last three years. I have been with VIPKid, an online ESL teaching program, for 3 years, and I have been with Magic Ears (another ESL teaching program) for the last year. In this time, I have learned to elicit total physical response while engaging young learners, teaching curriculum based on learning English as a second language. I have worked in both one-on-one and four-on-one virtual settings. I am comfortable with all ages and larger groups of children.
No homework is required, however it is recommended that your child(ren) read the lyrics ahead of class and make note of any interpretations or comments they have.
PLEASE NOTE: It is highly recommended to listen to the song before class. You can watch music videos, or videos with lyrics at YouTube.com.
