Description
Class Experience
There are two main learning goals for this class. 1. Enrich your appreciation of musical theater history 2. Sharpen close-reading skills that can be applied to analysis of poetry or prose
I grew up in the world of musical theater and have performed in and directed theater for many years, as well as studying theatrical history both from literary and practical perspectives.
Lyric sheets, or links to lyrics, will be provided, but students may wish to listen to the songs and / or the cast albums of the shows they're from beforehand.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Sondheim's lyrics, as well as lyrics from other shows we may refer to (Rent, Hamilton, Ragtime, et. al.) occasionally contain mild profanity, and many shows deal with adult themes and / or violence (especially Sweeney Todd)
