Students will learn to be more confident in the kitchen, as well as thinking outside of the box when baking!
I have worked with children for over 15 years! I LOOOOOOOVE to bake and cookies have always been a very strong capability of mine. I come from a long line of bakers and I love the confidence that baking can bring to young learners. Additionally, I use baking with my own children to teach attention to detail and the value of preparing ahead of time.
Homework will be to actually bake the cookies. While I will help to prepare the mix in class, safety is a big concern. Batters will be prepared and available to bake with adult supervision when time allows.
Butter Sugar Vanilla Extract Almond Extract Salt Eggs All Purpose Flour Food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) Disposable gloves are suggested
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This lesson is all about fun and confidence in the kitchen. While no letter grade is given, I encourage parents to talk with the children about how well their cookies turned out OR what to work on next time.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Rules encouraged with students in the kitchen: 1. ALWAYS ask an adult's permission before cooking in the kitchen. 2. Wash and Dry your hands. 3. Clean as you go. 4. Use a potholder or towel, along with both hands, to carry hot items. When unable, ask for help! 5. Ask before you lick! 6. Listen, Listen, Listen. 7. Make sure that the oven or any other appliances are turned off before leaving the kitchen. This recipe does contain raw eggs and is not gluten free.
