Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Hello and Welcome!👋😊

In this asynchronous class, students can finally learn how to solve one- and two-step equations using ✨easy-to-remember✨ steps. Knowing how to solve equations is an essential algebra 1 skill. It's also a skill that calculators 🚫cannot🚫 always help with!

By the end of this class, you'll learn how to confidently & quickly solve problems such as:
👉 2x = -6
👉 -8 + x = 16
👉 5x - 4 = 11
👉 7 - 3x = 22
(scroll to the bottom for these answers!)

+ You will learn how to analyze WORD PROBLEMS and turn thought processes into algebraic equations! You just may be surprised at what you can do!

This is the SAME way I teach my students in our live semester class. It takes 8 sessions for them (a $144 value), but here your learner can get that same information taught through on-demand lessons from me for a fraction of the cost. Students can pause and re-watch when they would like, and I'm available for any additional comments or questions via message. Enroll now to finally master solving equations!

🎯What will each lesson cover?🎯
Solving One-Step Equations
Learn the mechanics of solving a one-step equation. We go back to the basics to give students conceptual understanding of the strategies used to solve equations involving one variable.

Solving One-Step Equations Word Problems
Students will be able to read word problems and construct an equation from the given information. Many times students know how to find the answer to these problems with little to no guidance, but they will learn the skill of turning thoughts into equations.

Solving Two-Step Equations
We kick it up a notch this week to tackle two-step equations. Students will learn the optimal way to solve these types of problems.

Solving Two-Step Equations Word Problems
Students will master the art of creating algebraic expressions from word problems. We dissect important information and leverage what students already know to put thoughts into algebraic equations.

ANSWERS to the example problems above (in the order they were listed):
x = -3
x = 24
x = 3
x = -5

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
The courses I offer center around core math topics in pre-algebra and algebra. I like to focus on the important building blocks students need to master in middle school and early high school in order to succeed in high school and beyond. Some of these topics cover proportionality, equations, inequalities, basic geometry, algebraic expressions, and arithmetic.

I am a certified teacher for grades 4-8 math and have over four years of professional experience teaching math to students ranging from grades 3 to 12. I taught seventh grade math while getting my credentials and taught my first year of seventh grade math at an amazing school. Though I left full-time teaching when I became a mother in 2019, I have continued to pursue my passion for teaching math part-time via various platforms.

My philosophy that drives my teaching is that every student is a unique person who is worthy of my time. I have the patience to work with students who are struggling in math and the ability to push students who are naturally inclined towards math. My goals when working with students are to teach and encourage.

When I'm not teaching/tutoring I can be found snuggling my babies, spending quality time with friends and family, and playing disc golf with my wonderful husband.
