In this class, students will follow along with steps each week in learning how to solve the classic 3x3 Rubik's Cube! Each week will cover a different algorithm (or step) for the Rubik's Cube. The algorithms will build off of each other. I will guide them through each step and have them practice by following along to my video as well as guiding pictures that show the step-by-step algorithms each week. During class, students will learn what is needed to practice the cube, however, outside of...
Students will learn the steps to solving a Rubik's Cube.
I learned how to solve a Rubik's Cube when I was 12 years old. I have been practicing the 3x3 and the mini 2x2 version recreationally for 12 years now. I have also professionally taught students to solve the Rubik's cube for 5 years years now.
Outside of our regular weekly class meetings, students should be practicing the steps they have learned in order to memorize them. Memorization isn't necessary in order to know how to solve it, but it will make solving it a lot easier so they do not need to keep looking at the algorithms. The more students practice, memorization is inevitable.
REQUIRED: - A 3x3 classic Rubik's cube
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Assessments will be formative throughout each class meeting by working with students individually. There will be no formal assessments throughout the course, however, I will make sure students are following along to each step and are not falling behind each week. A summative assessment will be conducted during the last week of class to see how far the students have gotten with the Rubik's Cube and if they are actually able to solve the whole cube from start to finish.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
