Soil Science: Intro to Regenerative Agriculture
Class experience
Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
It turns out, there’s more to soil than just dirt! Students interested in climate science, agriculture, or microbiology will enjoy this class. In this two day course, students will become familiar with regenerative agriculture and current issues relating to the climate. Slides will be shown as we discuss these topics, along with a demonstration. Two three-minute videos will also be played in class. The course schedule is listed in the “syllabus” section below.
2 lessons//1 Week
Week 1Lesson 1Day 1Students will be re-introduced to soil from a microbiological point of view. Students will become familiar with carbon and understand its importance. We will define Earth's systems, past and present by creating a diagram through zoom. Students will investigate carbon cycling in plants. Students will get an up-close look at carbon sequestration as we learn about compost and how it can improve soil health. Students will help me build a compost pile live.Lesson 2Day 2Students will explore regenerative agriculture and its 6 basic principles. We will compare and contrast soil building and soil depleting practices and examine which ones can improve food, feed soil, and benefit human health. Students will pin point ways in which we can positively impact the carbon cycle in our daily lives. We will end the course by exploring current studies and innovative ideas relating everything we’ve learned.

Hello, my name is Kat. As a student, the most memorable classes in school were the ones my teachers were passionate about teaching. When I teach, I can't help but be passionate because I get to integrate my real life experiences with each lesson....
