Advanced Level
This weekly discussion course on various excerpts from literature is meant to engage, inspire and excite the young readers. With a collection of short poems, passages and short stories from classical works and writers, students get a glimpse into the great works of the past and see how they influenced the times and people they were written for as much as they do today. Discussions include literary terms such as Persona, Point of View, Narrator, Metaphor, Moral, Fable and much more. Week 1 : Introduction to Socrates and the Socratic method, sample seminar discussion "Talent versus Hardwork". Week 2: Fable socratic seminar (Aesop's Fable, "Tortoise and the Hare") Week 3: Passage (Excerpts from "The Law" by Hippocrates) Week 4: Poem ( "A Dream within a Dream" by Poe) All classes will be led via Powerpoint presentation but the focus will be on a Socratic seminar approach. Open ended questions will guide students to build upon each others' ideas as well as share thoughts and look at things from a different vantage point.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a deeper understanding of the content they will read to better prepare themselves for discussion. They will learn to support their opinions using proofs from the readings and will reflect on other people's points of view.Other Details

All readings are open source material, readily available on the internet, but the teacher will post links to the readings in the classroom page.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
