In this one time class, students with ASD will learn appropriate ways to greet others and what it means to be kind to others. We will begin class with an introduction which will include the student stating their name and their favorite television show. Next, we will watch "Social Skills: Greeting someone. An animation suitable for children with a diagnosis of ASD" by Practical Behaviour Solutions. After the video, I will show them pictures of different people (community helpers and family...
Students will learn appropriate ways to greet others and the meaning behind being kind to others as well as sharing their interests with others.
I work with children ages 3 and up diagnosed with ASD. I currently do Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy and I have 4+ years experience teaching.
Students will be asked to search for their favorite stuffed animal, an item that is their favorite color, and their favorite toy to play with. They will be showing it to the class and can talk about it with the class if they are comfortable doing so. Parents may help! An optional Be Kind color page will be provided in the classroom for fun and extra reinforcement.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents are always welcome to supervise their child as we will be having social conversation, but it is not required. It may be helpful when it comes to answering questions as I want each child to only participate as much as they are comfortable with. My goal is to have each child have a positive and enjoyable experience in this class. Please keep in mind that parents must stay off camera per Outschool policy.
