I am an inclusive teacher who believes that having safe spaces for social interaction is so very important. I am more than happy to answer any questions or discuss any concerns before class. This group is kept deliberately small (at only 4 members) to allow for students to really get to know the other students in each session. This class will use a variety of activities such as games, challenges and teamwork activities to facilitate socialisation BETWEEN learners. This is not a social skills class where students will be taught social skills but rather a club that will facilitate opportunities for students to get to know one another, communicate and work together. There will be two sessions a week which will be broken down in the following way Session 1: Activity Session - Activities and games based on a different theme to facilitate teamwork, cooperation and communication in a variety of ways. The goal of each session will be to create an environment that facilitates socialisation. Session 2: Sharing session - After the students have completed at least one session together earlier in the week each member will have the opportunity (if they wish) to share something about their week, their interest or anything they would like to talk about and we will also allocate time for responding to each student (whether that be questions, similar stories, or any other way in which students feel comfortable responding). This is to encourage communication and sharing between students rather than just having students take turns in talking to me. Each club member will have time to share. As the teacher my level of involvement will be responsive to the needs of the group. If all students are participating well and interacting with each other I may step back a little and just observe to allow club members to interact more with each other. I am a qualified primary teacher and a qualified girl guide leader (Australia's version of Girl Scouts). I have completed training overseas through my guiding specifically on how to create environments for members of different cultures, abilities, backgrounds and countries to socialise and form friendships. Parental Guidance
The second session of this class involves students sharing information about their week or topics of interest. This may mean that learners are exposed to unfamiliar topics that they may have questions about after class. This is an inclusive class that acknowledges that different families have different cultures and beliefs and students may possibly come across families who have different values and beliefs.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
