In this ongoing class, Students will hear a story which will discuss the importance of the particular skill and will be followed by a discussion. Students will learn about a new social skill each week.

Class Experience

In this Ongoing Course, Students will learn about a new social skill each week followed by a show and tell at the end of class. Students will hear a story which will discuss the importance of the particular skill and will be followed by a discussion.  The discussion will help to facilitate an extension of knowledge surrounding the topic and by the end of class students will have adequate skills and knowledge in their toolbox to encourage positive behaviour. We will end the class with a show and tell. Participation in the show and tell is voluntary. 
Week One (May 6-11) : F is for Feelings- Students will explore different feelings that we may experience through a story read aloud to them .

Week Two  (May 12-18) : Kindness- Students will explore the following: What is Kindness? What does it mean to be kind ? Why is it important to be kind? What are some ways we can show others kindness? We  This will be facilitated with a story & followed by a discussion

Week Three  (May 19-25) : Courage - Students will explore the following: What is Courage? What does it mean to be courageous? How can being courageous help us overcome our fear? This will be facilitated with a story & a discussion.

Week Four (May 26- June 1): Bucket filling From A-Z- Students will explore the following: What does it mean to be a bucket filler and a bucket dipper?
What is an invisible bucket & what happens when we "tip another person's bucket?" (by being rude, unkind, mean etc ) How can our choices both good and bad affect another person?

Week  Five (June 2-8) : Worries are not Forever- Students will explore the following: what are worries (in relation to anxiety)? What are "big worries" & "small worries" ? How do we overcome our worries?

Week Six (9-15) : Anger- Why do we get angry? Which is it ok to be angry but not ok to hurt things/others around us? Why is it important to learn to back away from situations that make us angry? What are some physical signs that we can identify to help us figure out we are getting angry?

Week Seven (June 16-22): Anger Management & Calm Down time- Students will explore the following: Why do we get angry? What does it mean to "calm down" & what are some calming strategies that can help ? We will focus on calming down strategies.

Week Eight (June 23-29): Listening Ears- Students will explore the following: What does it mean to have "Listening Ears?" Why is it important to listen? What are some strategies we can use to help us become better listeners?

Week Nine (June 30- July 6) Effective Communication: Students will explore the following: Why is it important to communicate effectively? Why can't people understand us when we do not communicate effectively?

Week Ten (July 7-13) : Yes I can! Students will explore the following:  a growth mindset and the importance of building their confidence to believe in themselves and understanding how by believing in themselves that anything is possible

Week Eleven (July 14-20) Empathy- Students will explore the following:  What does it mean to have "Empathy"? Why is it important to understand the feelings of others and how can that help us understand them better? How does being empathetic helps us in our social situations?

Week Twelve (July 21-27) : Growth Mindset- Students will explore the following: What is a "Growth Mindset?" What does it mean to have a "growth mindset" and why is it important? How can having a growth mindset help with self-esteem and self-confidence & in turn help with positive behaviour? What does it mean to "believe in yourself?" & the power of " I can.."?
