Does your child love playing board games or game based activities? Are they in the stage of forming critical friendships and gaining more independence? This class combines social skills, life skills and board games! Student in this age range learn best through play. This makes the information more meaningful and shows them how to apply it in a more realistic way. In this ongoing course, students will meet weekly to learn a new social skill or life skill such as empathy, conflict resolution or study skills. These skills will be attained in class through engaging visuals, prompted critical thinking and socializing and a board game. Each week students will play a digital board game on google slides that is inspired by the skill of the week. Students will apply their new skill by answering scenario based questions, engaging in brief role plays and drawing as listed on task cards within the board game of the week. Students can expect each class to begin with introductions and a brief activity. For example, students may be asked to share a random fact from their week or guess each other's favorite ice cream. Following this, students will engage in critical thinking discussion to learn the skill of the week. Then, each student will participate in a board game involving task and discussion cards to apply, form opinions and evaluate social and life skill-based questions. This class is intended to strengthen students' abilities to relate with others and form independence. I will informally assess each student as they verbalize their thoughts and feelings.
