The purpose of this class is for students to learn lessons in friendship, inclusivity, and diversity through the characters' experiences in Horse Named Cow by Meagan L. Nusz. In order for your child to feel safe and welcome during this story time, the following class rules will be communicated to all learners at the start of class: -Listen closely and quietly during the story. -No one is required to share anything personal. -Be respectful if others decide to share. -Speak kindly if you decide to share. -Think creatively about how you can apply this lesson. Throughout the reading of this book, your child will: -See and hear examples of a character who is struggling with being different from others around him. -Be asked to share what is wrong with how the main character is being treated. -Be asked to give input on how they think the characters the story are feeling. -Learn that differences between people are what makes them special. -Learn that people who are different can be friends. -Be prompted to share their ideas on why they believe being kind to people who are different is important. All are welcome here!
