Students will gain the ability to learn conversation skills in a friendly and encouraging environment so that they are able to apply it to their everyday interactions.
I have volunteered and worked with children and teens diagnosed with Autism and other social pragmatic delays for over 7 years where I have been able to acquire a thorough understanding on how to interact with them and help them improve on a wide range of skills. These invaluable experiences have given me greater insight into teaching a huge variety of social and language skills (e.g. emotional recognition & regulation, problem-solving, appropriate vs. inappropriate, pronouns, prepositions, perspective-taking). I have been able to witness first-hand the amazing results from specific teaching methods and activities to improve students' social and language skills.
Optional homework will be assigned to all the students in order to help them apply the skills learnt from class to everyday activities and daily life.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
