Welcome Parents and Students! This Social-Emotional Learning ongoing class will help students increase self-esteem, self-awareness, positive thinking, friendship skills, and improve positive attitudes among peers. To facilitate learning and student interaction, we will read social stories about people in various real-life scenarios. Students are presented with memorable tools to apply skills in everyday life. In class we will discuss various social scenarios presented students will practice problem-solving, evaluate different solution paths, and resolve social and friendship conflicts. As an ongoing class, students can join any week and there is no need to catch up on the previous lesson. EXAMPLES OF TOPICS COVERED: >>> Self-esteem and Confidence Meter: this lesson teaches tools to increase self-esteem and students will learn about the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and actions. >>> Handling Embarrassment: students leave this lesson knowing exactly which steps to take to handle embarrassment with confidence. >>> Circle of Control and Assertive Communication: sometimes we try to focus on what's not in our control, this can lead to frustration. In this lesson we learn how to focus on our own circle and the power this awareness has in our everyday life. >>> Setting Boundaries: in this class we learn how, why, and when we need to set boundaries. It's all about expressing confidently what we need and want. >>> Avoidance, Motivation and Rewards: sometimes we avoid social situations because we don't feel too confident, or we just can't find the motivation to do so. After this lesson, students will know how to use a specific tool to help build motivation to achieve goals. >>> Confidence and Adaptability: after this class students will understand the power of our positive thoughts and flexibility in friendships. Understanding our triggers and self-regulation. >>> Resilience & Perfectionism: sometimes we expect perfection from ourselves and others, and this can lead to frustration and low self-esteem. This class teaches tools to build self-awareness and confidence. Learning Needs
This class is inclusive of neurotypical & neurodivergent students (such as ADHD and students on the Autism spectrum). I specialize in Autism and Behavior Science, with extensive experience working with students of diverse learning needs.
Parental Guidance
This class will not cover any sensitive topics and students do not have to share personal information related to personal social challenges or experiences.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
