Class Experience

Social-emotional skills are JUST AS if not MORE important than academics. These are the building blocks for life-long skills that are needed everywhere, all the time, and with everyone! Come join this FUN, completely interactive social club and practice these essential and critical social emotional skills while having a blast doing so!!! :) This group will be kept at 5 for a nice small group in order to allow learners to feel more comfortable opening up and getting to know one another!

INCLUSIVE and I welcome ALL learners. My background is with diverse learners, and children with unique needs. (I have my teacher certification in Special Education and have worked in both inclusive and self-contained educational and recreational environments). I am also currently pursuing my Masters in Special Education. Please let me know of any modifications or accommodations that will allow your learner to have a more fulfilling experience and increased participation.

Some of the social skills that this social club tends to focus on utilizing the natural opportunities within the context of a 'social club':
- Turn-taking
- Active-listening
- How to respond appropriately when you are not always "first"
- Raising hands at appropriate agreed upon times
- Showing interest in other learners ideas/interests even if it is not their own
- Sharing how we feel and what we might be looking forward to
- Celebrating learners' successes
- Addressing problem-solving skills (what does fair mean? how do we compromise?) i.e. choosing a game that reflects everyone's interest or playing all games with equal amount of time after a discussion as a group

While this is an ongoing class and you can stop your subscription at anytime, I am hoping that this class can have a mostly consistent group, if not all, of the same 5 learners to truly give the learners the opportunity for a consistent weekly outlet for social games and fun while building true meaningful lasting friendships! :)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Typical Schedule:

Hello/Greetings
Ice-breaker/ Question of the Day
Games/activities
Chat time! (mixed throughout class)
Goodbyes

**Games will change weekly based off of student's interests. Voting and discussion occurs to help promote communication around taking turns, fairness, and understanding that every game might not be one's favorite, but we are a community that respects one another to play the "other person's" game if they are willing to play ours. **

I utilize an online classroom wheel spinner and timer to help facilitate this as well with equal sharing of each game, and random choosing of which game or person goes "first" when these tools are needed. These tools have always been very successful in creating a positive learning atmosphere to foster these social skills.

A sampling of the games that have been played in the past:

You will be issued a refund if that occurs and I will have a prepared asynchronous activity that will be posted in the classroom in replacement of the live meeting that will still encourage learner participation at the time of the class.

Hello! I'm Ms. Jennie, and I am SO excited to be teaching on Outschool! I have over 5 years of teaching experience in the public schools as a certified Early Childhood Educator (with ESL and LBS 1 (SPED) endorsements).

My background is with diverse learners, and children with unique needs. (I have my teacher certification in Special Education and have worked in both inclusive and self-contained educational as well as recreational environments such as camp).

I am also passionate about the field of Psychology, I have a minor in and looking to get further credentials such as certificates in Mindfulness etc.) and strongly believe in intentionally teaching social-emotional skills both explicitly as well as implicitly as opportunities naturally occur. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Special Education and will graduate in December 2024.

I believe learning should be fun, and I always try to find a way to tie the student's interests with my teaching and keep them engaged! I look forward to hearing from you, and how we can work together to best meet the needs of your learners!
