Social Skills, Assertiveness, & Social Anxiety Tools - for teens
What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
There will be limited homework assigned, typically practice of the topic learned that week. There will also be resources made available to students to work through on their own or as reference material based on some of the classes available.Class Experience
During this weekly class, we will be working on social skills that we can practice in a safe space and put to use in every day life. Each week will have a new topic to learn and practice, and give the students a chance to interact and build community with one another. Teaching these social and life skills is one of my big passions. I look forward to student and teacher interaction and discussion in our live weekly classes. For each week, we will select a topic from the topic pool, and we will have a few minutes of introduction to the topic, discussion of the topic, and then practice of some of the tips/techniques related to the topic (for several of these classes, group discussion is the practice). Activities and resources needed for each class will be provided by the teacher. While many of these topics seem to build on one another, each week is designed to be a stand alone class, so that students may join as needed. Students will of course get a lot out of being part of every week, but this is not a requirement to be a part of this class. Some topics will also be revisited based on needs/desires of students present. Topic 1: Self-Introduction & meeting others Topic 2: Social anxiety and difficulties, and how we can overcome these Topic 3: What is Assertiveness? - Being able to respectfully to say what you mean and how you feel. Topic 4: Continuing to make friends - getting to know others Topic 5: Things we have in common: values, beliefs, likes, and dislikes Topic 6: Self-confidence: how we can confidently interact with others Topic 7: What do we have to offer others? How do we identify what others have to offer? Topic 8: Identifying our own values and core beliefs Topic 9: Emotional IQ - positive and negative feelings Topic 10: Emotional IQ - knowledge of self and others Topic 11: Practicing self-management and relational management techniques Topic 12: Problem solving: identifying problems Topic 13: Solving problems on our own Topic 14: Solving problems with others Topic 15: Bullying & Peer Pressure Topic 16: Interviewing and applications for jobs and college Topic 17: Giving and accepting compliments Topic 18: Giving and accepting appropriate critical feedback
