During this weekly class, we will be working on social skills that we can practice in a safe space and put to use in every day life. Each week will have a new topic to learn and practice, and give the students a chance to interact and build community with one another. Teaching these social and life skills is one of my big passions. I look forward to student and teacher interaction and discussion in our live weekly classes. For each week, we will select a topic from the topic pool, and we...
Students will be able to learn and practice social skills that will help communicate better with others, identify emotions in themselves and others, solve problems with others, work through social anxieties or difficulties, and more.
I am a recently retired Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with a focus on children and adolescents. I taught classes just like this one in public schools for 3 school years, and this class is adapted from the classes I led there. During my time in public schools, I adapted social skills and life skills materials for students from Kindergarten all the way through 12th grade.
There will be limited homework assigned, typically practice of the topic learned that week. There will also be resources made available to students to work through on their own or as reference material based on some of the classes available.
For some classes, the student will need a resource (provided by teacher) and: Pen/pencil Paper/journal *A journal for this class may be very helpful for students as they learn and practice their techniques
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
This class is for older teens, those of high school range. Due to the differences between students of that age and younger, I do have a strict age range policy for this class. Thank you for understanding.
