Description
Class Experience
I hold a degree in elementary education and have been working with young children for over 15 years through teaching, professional childcare, coaching, and raising three boys of my own. I have extensively researched kindergarten readiness to best prepare my own children for the transition and to create classes on social skills that I currently teach on the Outschool platform. I am intentional about inclusiveness and diversity in my classroom. It is my goal to expose my learners to a variety of faces, bodies, families, and cultures. I am a lifelong learner and place a high value on educating myself and others on bias, antiracism, and white supremacy. I have also helped launch, organize and lead a group focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion in my son's elementary school. My focus in this work is to cultivate a curiosity about differences, while leaving bigger topics to be taught by people groups that have direct experience with them, specifically my BIPOC peers.
Optional challenges between classes . Will be posted in the classroom weekly.
We will have weekly handouts that will post in the classroom. These are optional handouts to do after class.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be discussing the skill of independently going to the bathroom. We will not go into detail, rather discuss briefly that they can practice this to prepare for school. In the lesson on personal space, we will discuss learners being "the boss of their bodies", meaning they get to decide what touches they like and don't like (hugs, kisses, snuggles, high fives, waves) and how close is too close. I will be offering a worksheet to review with your learners on this topic.
