In this class, one-time for 60 minutes, learners to explore 25 social scenarios that relates to social situations at school. Social skill awareness help learners interpret social interactions between others and themselves as they navigate through facts and opinions. I present each scenario in isolation using pictures and other graphics to engage learners by asking them to take turns reading aloud at least twice to increase reading skills. Social scenarios promote awareness and provides the ability to make a preference between two or more options. I will give cues, repeat questions by rereading the scenario, check for understanding, and encourage learners to decide. When learners answer questions, it strengthens their ability to make a sound judgment therefore, using social scenarios introduce making decision making and promoting interpersonal skills. Social scenarios also provides the ability to practice active listening and the ability to pay close attention to the speaker, avoiding distractions, and waiting to respond after presenter is finished (rather than interrupting the speaking). There are several advantages of building social skills for personal relationships with others. They are, communicate needs and wants clearly and effectively, have better relationships with others, navigate awkward social situations, and feel happier. As an educator, I create data based on a variety of guidelines as a teacher and research has proven through data, testing, and classroom observations that students respond to social solutions. In this class, Social Scenarios for School, learners will introduce themselves, review the class expectations/rules, and I will start the class by asking KWL questions (K-what do you know about social skills? What do you want to learn about social skills? Then, as the class comes to an end I will ask L-what have you learned about social scenarios? I enjoy teaching students that inquiries and engage in the activities. The structure of the class allows learners self-expression and encouragement to engage in the presentation. Social situations will be presented for the learner to answer based on their background knowledge of the scenario. In my teaching practice I make learning fun for the learners during discussions on each PowerPoint slide. No prior experience is required.
Learning Goals
The learning goal for this class is to strengthen analytical thinking skills.
