We are in the midst of a shift in our overall economy and the way we do business here in the United States. Black Friday has shifted to Cyber Monday. Companies are trading billboards for social media followers. Brick and Mortar has transformed into click and order. What exactly is going on here? Welcome to Social Media Wealth for Teens, where we will meet to discuss all the ways businesses and wealth are shifting in the 2020s and beyond. The focus of the discussion will be topics such as E-Commerce, Teen Entrepreneurship, TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, and more. We will also discuss how you, as a teenager can capitalize on your knowledge of technology and social media to take advantage of one of the greatest times in history to build a business this year and beyond. This class is a one-time class for ages 13-18 and will be taught using a presentation and discussion format. We will also examine case studies of teens who have successfully built businesses and a following using social media. My goal is to create a meaningful, comfortable, social learning environment where students discuss interesting topics and connect with each other. Prior knowledge of the topics listed above isn’t necessary to gain the most from this class, but an interest in social media is strongly recommended. Students will have plenty of opportunities to share their input and listen to others.

Greetings parents! I'm Mr. McVay and I'm happy you came across my profile!
I have been in the field of Youth Development for over 14 years. I have a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Children's Studies, an M.S.Ed in Special Education for Grades 7-12, and am a Special Education teacher licensed in New York for grades K-12. I'm passionate about working with children and teens because helping develop our youth makes for a brighter future!
As an educator, I have four core principles that I believe in deeply and guide my educational practice:
1. Teaching should be inclusive and culturally responsive
2. Building skills are essential
3. ALL children have the capacity to learn!
4. Support goes beyond academic needs; learners need to be supported socially and emotionally as well
My classes here on the Outschool platform are centered around some of my passions. As a math Special Education teacher of over 8 years, I'm passionate about teaching math to neurodiverse learners who may struggle in a traditional setting. Over the years, I have been told I am a patient educator who can break down topics into simple, easy-to-understand pieces. I'm also passionate about helping teens understand what the world will soon become and not what the world is currently. We are in the midst of a global transition in how business is handled and conducted. We are moving towards a society increasingly dominated by digital technology. It's important to prepare our children for the world they will one day inherit, not the world that will soon fade away. For that reason, I offer classes centered around Artificial Intelligence, financial literacy, Online businesses, and the Metaverse.
Something personal you should know about me is that my hobbies include watching and discussing sports such as the NBA and NFL, following the stock market and cryptocurrency, day trading, and working on my online businesses!
