* Please feel free to use the auto-schedule feature, if the available times don't work for you! * This unique class led by a social media marketing consultant with 8+ years of experience. This is a lecture based class, covering social media marketing topics and tools, and includes time for learners to ask questions. Topics include: - The pros and cons of different social media platforms for marketing, promoting and sharing about your hobby or business. Typically, we'll (briefly) talk about Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest, Nextdoor, and Tiktok - especially why some of them don't make sense for small business social media marketing (with exceptions!) - We'll discuss what posts and images are useful, especially on Facebook and Instagram - Safety considerations when using social media for business, and why I encourage students to have parent/adult involvement in social media marketing - How "if you're not paying for the product, you are the product" Please note: This class does not offer a step by step overview on how to post on social media (message me if you need this, as I can offer is as a 1:1 class.) Instead, it's an overview of the most popular social platforms, with pros and cons for each as well as my takeaways of the best platforms for young social media marketers. This class has a minimum size of 1, however, class is better with other students! Please consider sharing with friends! If there is just 1 learner signed up, I may reach out about an optional transfer to a section with other student(s) enrolled. Would you prefer to dive in deeper, through on-demand/pre-recorded videos? Here's a link to my Self Paced Social Media Marketing + Safety course, which tackles all the same topics, and more, even more deeply! https://outschool.com/classes/self-paced-social-media-marketing-and-safety-for-young-entrepreneurs-QMd96RQm?refuid=kGLE5w9M ** If, after taking this class, you'd like to sign up for my 10 week Semester Business Exploration, DM me about a discount for that class! A note about my classroom guidelines: learners can be wiggly, distracted, and sensory seeking, and that's totally normal! I try to create spaces that are supportive, cozy, and interactive. Because some behaviors can be distracting for classmates, I will share a basic set of guidelines at the beginning of class. I want to make sure that all students are cared for, and reducing on-camera distractions is part of that! 1) Video on or off (after verification)! Discussions can be verbal or in *on-topic* chats. 2) Be respectful; don't interrupt; raise your (physical or digital) hand! Don't intentionally distract other students (e.g. putting things directly in front of the camera) 3) Because they can be quite distracting, this class does not allow video filters, avatars, or background changes (except blur). 4) If necessary, I will move a disruptive student to the waiting room. If appropriate, I will let them back in for another chance to stay in class respectfully. If this occurs and you have questions, please reach out to Support. 5) Any racist, homophobic, body shaming, violent or inappropriate language/images will result in removal from class. If this happens, you may email outschool@support.com with any questions. A few other notes: - Please click your meeting link 2-3 minutes early so we can start class on time! - Per OS policy, if there are no students in the classroom 10 minutes after class starts, I will log off and end class. (If you're having tech issues trying to enter the classroom, just send a message or post in the classroom, so I know you are there!) - If you cannot attend, please let me know at least 24 hours before class starts, so I can transfer you to a different section (when possible). When it might not be possible: if you ask for a transfer for a multiday class the day before it starts, and your transfer will result in the class dropping below the learner minimum, I may not be able to offer a transfer. But if I can, I will! - Class recordings are not automatically shared; they will be made available when possible. Please note, new OS policy is that a learner can't watch a video until they have attended class, unless they are a verified learner. - Learners are encouraged to advocate for how they would like to participate. If your learner needs adult help (e.g. adult on screen, adult answers for child or facilitates answers, adult takes notes), please let me know in advance per OS parent guidance. Parental Guidance
It's crucial that parents understand that we will be discussing how to use social media platforms to market (sell, promote, share about, connect over) your learner's hobby or business. I will heavily emphasize the need for learners to talk to their parent/adult/guardian about how they are using social media platforms. I encourage them to get permission from and grant adult access to the apps, and notify an adult if there is anything that seems unsafe on the platform. We will also discuss that safety comes first - that while these are amazing tools, they can sometimes be unsafe spaces for teens (e.g. direct messaging from adults, bullying) and they need to keep themselves safe, first and foremost. Adults should anticipate participating in and monitoring your learner's social media use. Please feel free to reach out with questions. If you would like class on non-social forms of marketing (e.g. flyers, craft fairs, talking to friends) - please schedule a 1:1 session and let me know that's what you would like to focus on!
