Class Experience
Come share your favorite thing while building conversation skills. This is a dedicated time for your learner to share their passions, whether it is about Pokemon, Minecraft, artwork, or a favorite stuffed animal. I will use conversational prompts to engage the learner as needed. We will go over different ways to ask questions and respond to others throughout a conversation or chat. As we talk, I will draw a "mind map" of the conversation. We will review that at the end of the session to see if there was anything missed. The 'mind map' will be posted after class in the classroom. It could be used for further exploration of the topic or perhaps as a starting point for writing. This may be a good fit for learners who are passionate about a topic but haven't found a friend or adult to share that information.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
I am not a licensed therapist. This is not a session to discuss feelings of depression or mental health issues. I will use my skills from social work and years in Special Education to help guide the student back to the conversation focusing on passions. If I sense further help is needed, I will send a note to the parent after class with the learner's permission.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
I will provide a handout for conversation skills that may be printed. Please go to the classroom for handouts.

I continuously engage in professional development through reputable platforms such as SimpleK12, LDA, PACER Center, and the Google Education Center. I am also proud to be a certified BrainPop Educator, NearPod Educator, and CK12 Educator.
Classroom Expectations:
In my classroom, kindness and readiness are the foundation. I welcome learners of all abilities and prioritize understanding and support for each student's unique communication and behavioral needs. I primarily base my classes on developmental or academic level rather than a specific age or grade. If you believe your older learner would benefit from a listed class, please enroll, and I will reach out to you for further information.
I strongly encourage learners of all abilities to participate to the fullest extent possible. I firmly believe that behavior is a form of communication, and I am dedicated to understanding what each student is trying to express.
Look forward to meeting you!
