This class is designed for autistic students by me, an autistic teacher, along with feedback from other autistics. I was undiagnosed until age 21 but I always knew I was different and didn't know why. Once I found out I was autistic, it was life-changing for me because I was able to understand not only why I was different but also that I wasn't broken and that were others like me. Being able to reach out to the autistic community has been an amazing resource for me and many other autistics and I want to make that available to my students. I originally offered this class only in a larger group setting with up to 12 students but have gotten requests for a smaller group that can be more personalized to each student. If you are interested in the larger group size you can find it here. https://outschool.com/classes/social-group-for-autistic-children-6Um3OfQs?usid=0W3iJWRH&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link Students will participate in conversations with their peers. I will encourage them to talk about their special interests and get to know one another. I will also provide games for the children to play together and help guide their conversation when needed. Because this class is student-led it is not possible to give a weekly outline. However, the class will follow the following pattern. - Greetings and introductions if there are any new students - Everyone will have a chance to share what they have been up to - Discussion and games - Everyone will get to share any upcoming plans they have before we go This is a great way for children to make friends and build social skills. Students with all levels of verbal ability are welcome but students who do not have a way to communicate over video chat will likely not get much from the group. If you have any concerns please contact me and I will try my best to make sure your child can participate with whatever form of communication they use.

Parental Guidance
Students do not need to have an official diagnosis to join. However, I do ask that they are aware of being autistic or aware of the possibility of being autistic. If you need help explaining autism to your student, check out my "What is Autism?" class which is available for ages 4-7, 8-12, and 13-18.
Some students may require supervision during our more active games such as freeze dance, Simon says, and other active games.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an autistic adult who has been working with autistic children and children with other disabilities for 13 years. I have my associate's degree in special education and am passionate about helping children reach their full potential. Every autistic person is different so it is important to add that, aside from my own experience as an autistic adult, I have worked with over 500 autistic children, both in-person and online; all of whom are in different places on the spectrum and have unique strengths and challenges.
