Description

Class Experience

In this weekly group, we will discuss and share on a range of topics. We will randomly select questions or conversation starters from a group of cards to begin each class.(sample below) We will cover topics in areas of self-awareness, ways to manage stress, building meaningful relationships with friends. Students will engage in conversation and practice speaking skills as we interact with one another throughout the lesson. We will incorporate games related to the lesson. Each week will be a new conversation and students may jump into this ongoing group at any time. My goal is to guide students in building confidence in themselves and encouraging them to support their peers in healthy ways. Social time with friends is a good way to build confidence.
This is a fun and interactive social time for middle school aged learners. It is a relaxing and comfortable environment to share ideas with peers and engage in real conversations. Middle school age is hard and this group will encourage healthy discussions about life and the things they enjoy with one another. I look forward to meeting new students!

My background in Community Health & Psychology has given me a passion for teaching children about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. My goal is to provide students a learning environment that inspires them to want to learn about the world around them and provide them with the tools they need to be successful. I have experience through American Red Cross working with children in the community and in local schools. I enjoyed working closely with students in areas of health & safety, first aid and community awareness. I have experience working with teen volunteers in fundraising and community outreach. For many years I have experienced teaching and working with children in different capacities. As an ESL teacher I enjoy helping students improve their reading skills as well as build their confidence in their learning abilities. I work with students on building their reading, writing and comprehension skills as well as phonics and grammar. I strive to make learning fun and help students expand their conversational skills as well as build confidence for their future goals.
*No homework is required.
*Students may be encouraged to journal for self-reflection and mindfulness.

This course will include topics on self-awareness and building meaningful friendships. This is an inclusive group that will provide a safe environment to discuss some of the stress and pressures students feel as a growing teen. It will be a fun environment for them to socialize and make friends.
