This class will walk through the experiences of our favorite Madrigal family characters to develop and practice perspective-taking, empathy, and reflective skills. Using “Overcoming” and “Repair” as our main themes, we will understand the emotions and motivations of the characters and answer important questions like, “Why did grandma love the magic?”, “Why aren’t we talking about Bruno?”, and “How did Maribel turn her disappointments into purpose and strength?”. Students will also learn the social skills needed to repair and maintain relationships. This class is interactive with a combination of slides and discussion. Students who have not seen the movie are welcome, but viewing it will help them discuss the material. There will also be spoilers. Two brief video clips of the movie will be shown in class.
