Class Experience

Welcome to the Social-Emotional Book Club, where the pages come alive with the power of empathy, understanding, and personal growth! Our graphic novels combine vibrant illustrations, dynamic layouts, and colorful graphics with great stories that make reading an engaging and enjoyable experience we can grow from. In this class, we will dive into the captivating world of "Swim Team" by Johnnie Christmas, a literary gem that beautifully explores the triumphs of overcoming challenges of trying new things. Friendships, emotions, and resilience combine to create rich layers of social and emotional themes that learners will discuss and reflect on weekly. Each class learners will take away something strengthening and hopeful, expanding their emotional intelligence and gaining new perspectives.

*Each week learners should read or refresh their familiarity of the chapters before class. I am happy to try to accommodate a different reading schedule if needed, as well as other class times that fit your schedule.

Schedule:
Sept 9th: Chapters 1-3: We can all relate to what it feels like to get thrown in the deep end. Bree shows us how we can choose to respond to new challenges and how others help us through difficult times.

Sept 16th: Chapters 4-6: Sometimes you have to tackle big problems a little bit at a time. Bree shows us how a bit of courage and the right mindset can help us move through our challenges.

Sept 23rd: Chapters 7-9: We need friends more than gold medals. Bree discovers that friendship, determination, and forgiveness make a strong team.
