Class Experience

In this learner-directed, ongoing class, we will engage in back and forth conversations about our favorite topics, such as music, gaming, books, art, TV shows, etc. Students will take turns answering questions, talking to their peers, and make new friends! We will play games such as trivia, would you rather, two truths and a lie, and bingo. This is a no-pressure class where students can express themselves in a safe and fun setting.

We will start the class with brief introductions, then have students complete an ice breaker and start our discussions. We will practice prompting with questions, discuss subjects with interest, and implement back and forth verbal communication. Students will also be taught how to approach an opinion that they don't agree with and how to handle that situation in the best manner. We will talk about setting goals for yourself and what’s the best way to achieve your goals.

My learning goals for your student:

-Social/Emotional Development (helping with the ability to adjust to new settings, learning respect for themselves and others, following simple rules and directions, and helping recognize the feelings of others)

-Cognitive Development (observes and participates in discussions, understands cause and effects, applies knowledge learned to a new situation)

-Language Development (expresses themselves, comprehends conversations and participates back, answers and asks questions)

My goal is to allow students to have a comfortable, social learning environment where they can practice their social skills with their peers and learn from others while talking about their favorite topics. This class will help build your student’s overall confidence when engaging with others!

If your student requires specific accommodations, please message me prior to class so I can implement them.

Hello! I'm Mrs. Debra, a lifelong Florida resident happily married and dedicated to homeschooling my three amazing children with disabilities for over a decade. I've had the privilege of guiding them from elementary to high school, even supporting my older children with their college degrees.

I take pride in having achieved numerous accomplishments on this amazing educational platform since I joined in 2020. I'd like to express my gratitude to Outschool, my families, and my students for their invaluable support in achieving these milestones:

I've been an active volunteer in the community for over a decade, lending my support to various organizations like the Special Olympics, local disability support groups, and several Autism support groups, which I continue to be involved with today.

As a disabled, neurodivergent individual, I bring valuable experience working with a wide range of individuals, including autistic children and adults, those with ADHD, OCD, developmental and intellectual disabilities, social anxiety, mental disorders, and physical disabilities. In my social club classes, students have the opportunity to develop communication skills, expand their vocabulary, enhance reading and listening abilities, all while engaging with exciting themes that capture their interest. My ultimate aim is to create a nurturing and enjoyable social learning environment where students can put their social skills to use, learn from one another, and discuss their favorite topics in a fun and engaging manner.

Teaching is my passion, and I understand that every student learns uniquely and at their own pace. Online learning offers a vast canvas for exploring various approaches to make education not only effective but also enjoyable! I take pride in assisting those in need of additional support, whether it's for their schooling or everyday tasks, all while targeting specific goals. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve their aspirations, and learning should never be tedious or challenging. I'm here to equip students with the skills they need for success.

In my downtime, I enjoy the company of my three rescue dogs – Sally, Jack, and Eli. I'm an avid traveler with a love for exploring new destinations. As a Coach, I have a passion for sports and travel to support my players and teams when I can (GO RED SOX)! Additionally, I highly value student suggestions when it comes to books, shows, games, and more; they've introduced me to countless wonderful experiences.
