Class Experience

Typically, kids and teens play Minecraft at home with little to no direction or goals in mind. In this class, we aim to enhance creativity, problem-solving, self-direction, collaboration, and other life skills while building towards a goal. Beginner to advanced students learns how to think critically about their work with the infinite possibilities of the game. I will be keeping this club as student-led as possible, it will not include teacher-led builds.

Each week will be student-led, meaning what we do in each class will be based on what learners have suggested! There will be plenty of time to talk and share ideas while being creative in this fun and interactive social class! We will begin each class with a brief discussion about the best way to build the chosen ideas. There will be 20 - 25 minutes to get creative and socialize. The last 15 minutes of class with be for sharing each other's creations and celebrating all that has been learned during our session.
There will be times where students will be free to do what they want in the game, whether that's to defeat the Enderdragon or to just search for villages. The point of this class is to create a social setting in a positive place. I wanted to create a class where students can connect with peers and enhance creativity, problem-solving, self-direction, collaboration, and other life skills.

We will be building in either creative or survival mode and you will need to have a way to play Minecraft as well as use the Zoom program. You will be working on your own devices in your own worlds for this class. You can build in whatever version of Minecraft that you own. If you choose to work with other students in their worlds or realms parental approval is recommended. Students must also be signed into their Microsoft accounts, or Xbox Live accounts, in order to join a world. *Not all game systems will connect with other words. That is ok and students are still able to work on solo projects and still join in on the Zoom discussion.

*If you are looking for a Survival class were you will work together to collect resources, build structures, defeat mobs, find food, and explore the world in an effort to survive and then thrive - with cheats off - Please check out this link for that class listing - https://outschool.com/classes/social-survival-club-minecraft-bedrock-RXjzd4BN?sectionUid=9252d3ee-6a93-416c-9b5e-b562b94bc142&showDetails=true

*Currently,
Wednesday's class is focused on building a city. A huge task but, so far it has been a fun and creative time.
Monday's class is a Survival World! But don't worry, keep inventory is on so it's not too hardcore!

*I will not offer a group server but you are welcome to join my world if you are on Bedrock Edition.

*Each class will be different and independent so you are able to join one class or come as often as you like!

*Please Do Not Break anything you didn't build.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to respectably wait and share in turn
Students will learn new tricks and tips from other learners as we are sharing ideas during the class

Hello! My name is Lisa and I am so excited to be teaching for Outschool! As a mother to 5 children, ages 11 to 23,  have modeled and taught life skills such as sewing, cooking, arts/ crafts, animal husbandry, and balancing a budget to name a few. For the past 10 years, I have taught in my local homeschooling co-ops, Sunday school classes, and various other community activities. I believe when you actively engage children through hands-on learning, learning becomes effortless!

I am also a homeschooling mom.  I have educated my children from kindergarten up to grade 8. I have taught kindergarten which I have specialized in teaching phonics and letter recognition. As well as, science, word building, social studies, bible, and English literature.

Currently, I have been teaching ESL online for the last 3 years, to children in China ages 4 to 13 years.  This experience has really helped me to be a more precise teacher.  It is a great joy to see smiling faces as they learn and discover.
