Join this learner directed game class to connect with awesome people who love learning on Outschool. Learners will share socially while they play a gentle and relaxed game of Stardew Valley. We can host and share the IP for learners to join us on our world. If you would like to join the class and just play on your own device and enjoy the conversation that is great too! We can take turns share screening to show everyone our farms. For the server, this game is Steam based and on PC/Mac OS or Linux. Once registered, you will be given an IP to connect to in your Co-op play LAN game setting when starting the game in a private message. The game will run during class. After class, as required by Outschool, the server will not be accessible outside of class. Session topics will be learner-directed. We might go fishing together or mining! We could attend the Spring Dance. There are lots of activities in this game and it allows us to visit and chat and create our little farm. There is much that is co-operative in this game. The rules are: * These environments are for safe, supportive hangouts. Let's remember to be kind to one another and give each other space and time to share. This is an extra long class so we have lots of time to play and chat. *Do not share the game IP. I fully expect our players to be kind, courteous and supportive because this is Stardew Valley and it's a great game that encourages cooperation. Let's have a relaxed hangout and maybe catch a sunfish or two! See you in town, Ms. Yvonne (in game my name is Evie) We are ESL Friendly, CEFR Level B and C.
Learning Goals
Learners will practice their social skills and play a relaxing gathering/farming/fishing sim.
Social classes satisfy BC’s curriculum/BC Ministry of Education for K–12 around communication studies through: acquiring and presenting information; focusing on intent and purpose in delivery; and connecting and engaging with others.
Other Details
Learning Needs
We are a neuroaffirming group of teachers who accommodate learners where they need assistance. We welcome all learners into our classes.
Parental Guidance
Stardew Valley has an online co-op option for PC or Switch. If on a PC, students can host a game and share the IP in the chat for people to join. Yvonne will share hers for PC with anyone who wants to join the game.
Students can provide their gamer tag if on Nintendo if they would like students to visit their farm. Gamer tags will be visible if playing online.
After class, as required by Outschool, the server will not be accessible outside of class. The Server hosted will be a vanilla server with no mods installed. If you have mods installed, you might have trouble connecting. We will not be using any third-party resources, that means no mods unless you are using them on your own farm (PC). A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required if students want to visit other farms or have people visit their farm on Nintendo devices.
Supply List
PC/Linux/Mac computer running Stardew Valley with the ability to connect to a LAN game. A reasonable internet connection (mine is satellite and it works fine with little lag).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
