In this 4 week course, learners will develop their art and writing skills, to create a short visual novel or art piece with writing. The course will begin with a multi-media presentation on each of the SEL competencies: Empathy, Diversity, Communication, Problem-Solving and Peer Relationships. After each presentation, learners will be asked to spend 10 min writing a a few paragraphs regarding each area. They will then be given a project using one of the following mediums: drawing, painting,...
Students will gain a foundational understanding of art and SEL competencies, and how these areas connect with themselves. Students will develop writing skills and their own individual creativity.
Learner will be expected to create and post art works between classes. The art assignment will be presented at the end of each class. Learners will need to spend up to an hour (or more if the student chooses) to complete each art assignment.
Learners will need drawing paper, writing paper, drawing materials and painting materials, collage materials, glue stick, scissors. Many of these things can be found at home.
